Equine Superstar visits Salisbury Racecourse

Outstanding racehorse CANFORD CLIFFS was at Salisbury Racecourse on Wednesday morning (20th July) completing a racecourse gallop over 7 furlongs. The equine superstar is being prepared for his big race in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, a week today. The 4 year old trained by leading trainer Richard Hannon at Everleigh near Marlborough, was ridden in the gallop by top jockey Richard Hughes. Canford Cliffs was accompanied by two other horses including Dubawi Gold, who was second in both the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas. The Sussex Stakes is the highlight of Goodwood’s festival of horseracing, and is being billed as ‘The Duel on the Downs’ as Canford Cliffs will be taking on the unbeaten 3 year old FRANKEL trained in Newmarket by Sir Henry Cecil.

Jeremy Martin, Clerk of the Course at Salisbury, commented - “Canford Cliffs is one of the most exciting racehorses in the world and we were delighted to be the venue of this important piece of work, in his build up to next week’s big race at Goodwood. We shall certainly be cheering him on!”.
