GLORIOUS
WEATHER AND SIX WINNING FAVOURITES GET SALISBURY SEASON OFF
TO GREAT START!

The 2003
season at Salisbury Racecourse got off to a great start on
Sunday 4th May.
After
heavy rain and high winds just two days prior, the raceday
itself turned out to be gloriously sunny and warm. A crowd
of just over 9,500, slightly up on 2002, attended the race
meeting, where six out of seven races were won by the favourite.
Clerk
of the Course & Racecourse Manager, Jeremy Martin, was very
pleased with the opening day: "The weather came good for
us - we could not have asked for better conditions. The racing
was excellent and the bank holiday weekend crowd would have
been very happy with all those favourites winning."
The top
jockey at the meeting was Richard Hughes, who rode four of
the seven winners. His winners included 'Vermilliann' in the
5 furlong Autecnique Saab Fillies Conditions Stakes. She is
highly thought of and is heading for Royal Ascot.
The new
facilities were also well received. Jeremy concluded: "The
new speaker system went down very well, as did the new Persian
Punch Bar and the balcony up above it."
