The Sheikh
Mohammed owned Godolphin operation won Salisbury's big race
of the year, the £60,000 totesport Sovereign Stakes (Group
3) on Thursday 11th August with the top class three year old
colt, Layman. Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, deputising for the
injured Frankie Dettori, the good-looking chestnut Layman,
trained by Saeed bin Suroor, beat Jack Sullivan by two lengths,
breaking the 1 mile course record, which had stood for 15
years, in the process.
Wednesday's
big race, the £42,000 EBF Upavon Fillies Listed Stakes was
won by La Persiana trained by William Jarvis in Newmarket
and ridden by Alan Munro.
Salisbury
next race on Friday 19th August, an evening meeting which
gets under way at 5.35pm.
