The Sheikh Mohammed owned Godolphin operation won Salisbury's big race of the year, the £60,000 totesport Sovereign Stakes (Group 3) on Thursday 11th August with the top class three year old colt, Layman. Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, deputising for the injured Frankie Dettori, the good-looking chestnut Layman, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, beat Jack Sullivan by two lengths, breaking the 1 mile course record, which had stood for 15 years, in the process.

Wednesday's big race, the £42,000 EBF Upavon Fillies Listed Stakes was won by La Persiana trained by William Jarvis in Newmarket and ridden by Alan Munro.

Salisbury next race on Friday 19th August, an evening meeting which gets under way at 5.35pm.
