SALISBURY RACECOURSE TO RECEIVE ROA GOLD STANDARD AWARD ON THURSDAY MAY 15
Posted May 14th 2008
Salisbury Racecourse will join the prestigious ranks of ROA Gold Standard Award racecourses with a formal presentation ceremony at the Wiltshire course on Thursday, May 15. The award recognises overall excellence in the raceday experience for owners, their horses and stable staff. Salisbury is the twelfth racecourse to receive the coveted accolade.
ROA Council member and Gold Standard Committee member, Sally Rowley-Williams, will present the commemorative plaque to the racecourse executive during racing tomorrow, their second fixture of the new 2008 season.
Salisbury’s prize-money for the last twelve months stands at over £900,000. Their executive and sponsorship contributions for the same period amount to 23.2% of their overall prize-money pool. Their average prize-money per fixture for the past twelve months, as listed in the Racing Post’s statistical tables, is £64,362, putting them fourth among the Category B courses.
Jeremy Martin, Salisbury's Clerk of the Course and Manager, commented: "We are naturally extremely pleased to receive the Gold Standard Award. We were advised at the end of last season that we were on the verge of being awarded, but on the basis we could improve the signage to the racecourse on key parts of the City's ring road. This has now been achieved. We are pleased to be joining the group of courses already established as Gold Standard Award holders".
Sally Rowley-Williams, ROA Gold Standard Committee member and ROA Council member, said: “I am very pleased for Jeremy and his team. We worked together on improving signage to prevent owners and connections touring the countryside as I did on my first visit! Jeremy deserves praise for his diligence throughout the winter to sort this out and he acted quickly to resolve any issues. Salisbury is a lovely course with a terrific atmosphere and great prize-money. I urge owners to run their horses there”.
